Religious Activities

Religious and Cultural activites are held round the year in the Ashrama premises. The evening araati at the temple is attended by people in large numbers. Besides, tithi pujas are held according to the Vishuddha Siddhanta Panjika and schedule of Ramakrishna Math, Belur.

Devotee meetings and other cultural programmes are held from time to time.

Among the regular activities are Ram Nam Sankirtan held on every Ekadashi day, Weekly discourses on Ramcharit Manas are held in the Ashrama on every Sunday evening. On every Jayanti day, a discourse is held. Durga Puja is held every year with all its grandeur and the occasion is a notable event in the entire city. People from far and wide come to attend the Durga Puja irrespective of caste, creed and religion, which is observed with due solemnity. Prasad is distributed on all four days of the Puja.

Medical Activities

Since its humble beginning, our Allopathic Section and Sarada Netralaya has now grown into a multi-specialty eye hospital, standing prominent, in the heart of the City of Patna focusing on service to socio-economically weaker section and middle class with a strong objective of providing quality health care at the lowest cost to all patients and to provide charity services to deserving persons from lower socio-economic strata. It has been providing extensive modern dental and eye facilities as well as fully equipped Pathological Laboratory with Auto Analysers.

The Charitable dispensary has given a new lead in placing emphasis on domiciliary treatment in the Outpatient Department suited to our economy and increasing population. The Outpatient Departments remain open for 5 hours on all working days excluding declared holidays.

Besides the routine procedure, the OPD runs several Specialised Camps on particular days of the month for the patients suffering from various ailments. Besides, the Allopathic wing the hospital provides Homeopathy and Physiotherapy facilities at reasonable rates to patients from both urban and rural areas who are free to choose any system to suit their requirements.

Educational Activities

  1. Library & Study Room
    The Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama Library which had its humble beginning as early as in 1931 has gradually evolved into its new shape and housed in a spacioused tow-storeyed building which was inaugurated on 21 March 1956 by Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, the then Vice-President of India. The Library is well-equipped with 50,000 books, catering to different subjects and languages. There is a commendable collection of books in Sanskrit including some rare books of historical importance. In addition, there are a number of latest journals and periodicals as well as almost all the leading local dailies. The Library also has a Study Room which is a point of attraction for all the students for of its calm and quite atmosphere. Study Room is becoming very popular over the years and more than 150 students daily come over here to utilise its services.  Besides providing the usual library services to the community, it also acts as a forum for sharing and exchanging of ideas with different other libraries in and around Patna. Group Discussions and Seminars are held from time to time at the Library to sustain public interest in literary and aesthetic work.
  2. Students’ Home
    In existence from July 1927, has been playing a great part in moulding the life and character of the young generation. The boys live in a pure and healthy atmosphere in the midst of silent surroundings under the supervision of a monastic member. They receive religious training. They are also taught the dignity of labour and trained through a prescribed routine of prayer, study and work to be physically strong, intellectually alert, and morally sound, and to respect national ideals and traditions as well as develop a sense of social obligation and a spirit of service. As on today there are 20 students studying in different schools of Patna hailing mostly from remote villages of Bihar.
  3. Bal-Vikas Kendra:
    Bal-Vikas Kendra (a non-formal education centre) is being run for nearly 120 economically challenged boys and girls residing mostly in nearby slums of Ashrama. The children are helped to build their character and personality. They are given free coaching, free medical facilities, study materials and nutritious supplement free of cost.The mission also tries to include moral values in these young children.
